DMV Connect vs. a Virginia Customer Service Center

DMV Connect is the mobile office. A customer service center is the permanent office. Knowledge testing is not offered at every mobile visit.

This guide is for study and planning. Virginia DMV’s official pages and the Virginia Driver’s Manual control when a requirement, procedure, or rule applies.

What DMV Connect lists

DMV calls DMV Connect an office in a suitcase and says it provides nearly every DMV service. The current list is driver’s licenses and ID cards, titles and registrations, license plates, driver transcripts, disabled-parking placards or plates, address changes, passenger-vehicle and CDL knowledge testing, Virginia vital records, E-ZPass transponders, and hunting and fishing licenses.

The title is mailed. Birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates are mailed. Passenger-vehicle and CDL knowledge testing is not available at every visit. The page does not list road-skills tests. Hours and whether a visit takes walk-ins or appointments are set for that stop. Use the current locations calendar rather than a copied schedule.

Where it travels

DMV says Connect travels across Virginia, including businesses, college campuses, assisted-living facilities and retirement communities, military bases and government centers, and DMV Select partners.

What a customer service center adds

A customer service center is the full office. Walk-in knowledge exams there follow the knowledge-exam page: be present by 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or 11:30 a.m. Saturday to test that day. Appointments are Monday through Friday. Confirm the office before you go, because services differ by location. An E-Ticket holds a same-day place in line. It is not a future appointment and it is not the exam.
